Stephen H. Halem, DMD
Periodontist and Dental Director
Dr. Halem is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He completed a four-year Post-doctoral fellowship in Oral Medicine and Microbiology at Harvard University and the Forsyth Dental Center. He completed his residency at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He has been a teacher and researcher at the University of Maryland and at The Forsyth Dental Center.
Dr. Halem is currently a clinical research associate at The Forsyth Institute and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. He has been in practice for more than 30 years and is one of the developers of the first FDA approved treatments for periodontal disease, Actisite . He holds patents for the treatment of infections by the use of local drug delivery systems. Dr. Halem has been chief consultant to the President of Blue Shield of Massachusetts and was a founding member of the committee for National Health Insurance and a consultant to the US Senate subcommittee on Health.
Dr. Halem is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease and infection. His research in the microbiology of dental infection and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity enable him to treat these problems with medicines as well as other therapies. Dr. Halems conservative approach to treating periodontal disease will enable his patients to have simpler successful therapies with much less discomfort.
