Periodontal Care refers to all aspects of treating "Gum Disease". Our Periodontist, Dr. Stephen Halem a well-known periodontal surgeon has helped pioneer the treatment of periodontal disease using non-surgical methods. He was active in the development and research of the first FDA approved non-surgical treatment for periodontal disease. Research has shown that the first choice for treating periodontal disease should be with medicines. Recently the addition of lasers along with medicines have made periodontal therapy not only less costly, but also much less painful.
With our three (3) different lasers Diode, Erbium-YAG and CO2, we can perform periodontal procedures, sometimes even without local anesthetic (Novocaine). Having these lasers also allows us to more easily perform cosmetic procedures that can lengthen and help shape your front teeth. Since periodontal problems may also lead to or exacerbate systemic medical illnesses, it is imperative that the signs and symptoms of periodontal disease be treated as early as possible.

Dr. Halem is a specialist in Periodontics and Implantology. His practice specializes in conservative treatment of gum disease including cosmetic procedures to aesthetically enhance your smile and dental implants that can replace missing teeth. He diagnoses and treats oral pathology. Dr. Halem has been involved with research for the past 20 years the areas of research he is currently overseeing involves the relationship, of periodontal disease to heart disease. The use of local antibiotics to “conservatively” treat periodontal disease. Dr. Halem is on the staff of The Forsyth Institute, on of the most renowned dental research facilities in the world. Another of Dr. Halem’s interests is in TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders and Myofascial Pain syndrome, these are areas that involve pain in the head and neck that is related to jaw movement and function.

Dr. Halem believes that your right to choose a dentist is an important freedom. We work closely as a team with your referring dentists, but a referral by a dentist is not required for a visit to our office. We welcome referrals from patients and friends of the practice.
